How to play it

Downstrokes

One downstroke on every beat, four to each chord. Let each strum ring right up to the next one. You get a whole bar to move between shapes, so there's no rush.

Down and up

Down, down-up, up-down-up across each bar: the classic campfire pattern. Keep your hand moving down and up the whole time, even on the beats where you miss the strings.

Make it easier

Play Am7 rather than Am. It's your C shape with the ring finger lifted, so the change from C costs nothing.

Slow, famous, and it sounds like the record within a week of practice.

Learn with a teacher

A teacher hears what you can't: the strum that's rushing, the finger muting a string, the habit that will hold you back in six months. No website or app can do that part.

I'm Daniel, aka WCHIWA: a producer, composer and guitarist, and I've taught thousands of students. Bring any song you love and I'll arrange it to your level on the spot. No grade books, no fixed curriculum, and when you're ready, we record it in my studio. In London, Maidenhead and online.
